Born in 1875, Mary Bartlett Smith lived most of her childhood in various Massachusetts' small towns with her parents Mary and Calvin and a brother, Teddy. At Smith, she became secretary of the Current Events Club. She earned her B.A. in Classics in 1897. After graduating, she continued her education at various institutions including: Smithsonian Institute, Framingham Normal, Simmons College, Boston University, Columbia University, The Business Training Corp. of New York City, and the Chicago Bureau of Filing and Indexing. Smith taught in various private schools across New York and Massachusetts as she was completing her education, but spent most of her career as a statistician for various industries. After the death of her sister-in-law in 1936, she moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma to help her brother raise his two sons. She died there on February 12, 1953.
