George Eastlake, Solicitor to the Admiralty and Judge-Advocate at Plymouth, visited northern Spain in company with Admiral Sir Thomas Byam Martin, during September 1813. Martin was sent by the Admiralty to discover Wellington's requirements for naval assistance. The diary covers the journey to and from the north coast of Spain, starting from Cawsand Bay, Plymouth, 7 September 1813, to Passages; visiting Sir T.Graham in his quarters at Urtasun, going on to Wellington's headquarters at Lesaca, crossing the Pyrenees, dining with Wellington, the army's camp at Bidassoa, the return to Graham's quarters, the journey to Irun, and to San Sebastian immediately after the siege, returning to Falmouth.
