Loren Hickerson was associated with the University of Iowa from the 1940s until 1980. He was, amongst other roles, the assistant director of publications and editor of the Daily Iowan, an instructor in the school of journalism, executive director of the Alumni Association, and director of Community and Media Relations. Hickerson also served on the City Council of Iowa City from 1966-1974, including two terms as mayor.
