The 379th Engineer Battalion, headquartered at Fort Missoula, Montana, provides command and control for separate engineer companies and engineer team.

In September 2003, the Battalion was notified it would be deployed to take over the mission of the Mine and Explosive Ordnance Information Coordination Center (MEOICC) in Iraq, as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The unit left Fort Missoula January 5, 2004 and after a period of training arrived in Baghdad on April 16, 2004. The unit's mission was to identify the location of mines and build a Tactical Minefield Database; and to train other troops in identifying and disabling explosive devices. The battalion returned to Fort Missoula on June 4, 2005.
