Variant namesThe Elizabeth Mine was a copper mine in Orange County, Vermont, that operated from 1809 to 1958. The mine site was located primarily in Strafford, Vermont, although some sections were also within the town lines of Thetford, Sharon, and Norwich. The Elizabeth Mine had its period of greatest productivity between 1942 and 1958; this was mostly due to the use and implemantation of modern ore processing technology. From 1946 to 1956, it was one of the top 25 copper producers in the United States. The HAER report focuses on resources from this 1942-1958 period.
