Lewis Roy Zapf was born 22 October 1884 in Delaware County, Indiana. Mr. Zapf graduated from DePauw University in 1906. He received a master's degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., in 1912. He came to Indianapolis to practice law around 1914-15. In addition he taught at the Indianapolis Law School in Indianapolis from 1918-45. He was founder of the Indianapolis Morris Plan and the Hillcrest Country Club. He retired from practicing law in 1968 and died in 1972 at the age of eighty-nine.
