Annette Hochberg Hervey was a student of and then collaborator with William Jacob Robbins in his studies of antibiotics derived from asidiomycetous fungi and the nutritional and development characteristics of certain fungi and higher plants. She also studied plant tissue culture and orchids. Dr. Hervey served the New York Botanical Garden for 37 years and an educator and researcher. In 1971, she was named Coordinator of Special Programs. She was born in the Bronx, NY on April 20, 1920. She attended Evander Childs High School where she met Dr. Leon Hervey, her biology teacher. They married in 1939. Hervey earned her B.S. at Barnard, her M.A. at Smith where she met Harold Rickett of NYBG. She began her doctoral work at Columbia under William Robbins with whom she became a lifelong collaborator. She was corresponding secretary of the Torrey Botanical Club for 20 years. She was elected President of the club in 1978 and served in 1979. She died in New York, NY in 1980.
