McIntosh, Douglas W.

Hide Profile

In 1918, the United States Army established the Students' Army Training Corp (SATC) at Northern State Normal School (now Northern Michigan University) in Marquette, Michigan and registered 104 men. The Army housed the men in the old Longyear dormitory on campus. They received $30 per month and reimbursement for food and housing. During the fall of 1918, Northern closed as a result of the Spanish Influenza epidemic and the men were quarantined in the dormitory. The SATC program ended in January 1920. Baseball at Northern started in the summer of 1915 and lasted until 1923. The program ended because of bad weather and competition from city and local teams. W. Douglas McIntosh graduated from Northern State Normal School in 1920.
