Resolved Waterman (1787-1886), a cotton merchant and senior warden (1843-1872) of St. Stephen's Episcopal church in Providence, Rhode Island, married his first wife, Lucia Cady (1790-1824), in 1812. Resolved and Lucia Waterman had two children: Henry Waterman and Nancy Waterman Matthewson. After the death of Lucia Cady Waterman in 1824, Resolved married Anna Louisa Shaw (1801-1879) in 1828; they had six children, including Elizabeth, Lucie, and Abby. Resolved and Lucia's son, Henry Waterman, attended Brown University and the General Theological Seminary in New York; he was rector of St. Stephen's church from 1841 to 1845 and rector of Christ's Church in Andover, Mass. from 1846 to 1849; traveled to England from 1849 to 1850; and returned as rector to St. Stephen's in 1850. Henry married Eliza Greene Harris in 1837; they had one son, Lucius Waterman, who became a minister of the Episcopal church and was also an author; he attended Trinity College in Hartford, Conn. and Berkeley Divinity School in Middletown, Conn. Lucius resided and preached throughout New England and published several books, including The Post-apostolic Age. He married Abby Cate in 1884; they had a son, Henry Cate Waterman, born in 1893. Lucius served as rector at St. Thomas church in Hanover, N.H. from 1905 to 1919, also serving the community at Dartmouth College.
