Bernard Lemann was born Sept. 7, 1905, in Donaldsonville, La. His parents were Ferdinand Bernard Lemann (a merchant and sugar planter) and Mathile Madeleine Frank Lemann. He married Eleanor Jane Terhune in 1945; they had two children, John Ferdinand and Jeremy. Bernard Lemann was educated in art and architecture at Tulane University, Columbia University, and Harvard University. His wartime service was as a civilian with the National Parks and a mental hospital, 1943-1946. He was active in various professional and civic organizations, and authored and contributed to several monographs concerning Louisiana history and architecture. During his teaching career, he held positions at University of Kentucky, Tulane University, Columbia University, and Universidad Landivar, Guatemala. He died in New Orleans, Dec. 3, 2000.
