Joseph Rudd was born in New York in 1933. He graduated from Williams College and received a law degree from the University of Denver. Lisa Starr was born in Boston in 1933. She graduated from Bennington College and obtained a master's degree from the University of Alaska. They were married (1955) and later moved to Alaska (1959). Joseph Rudd was a natural resources lawyer and a member of the law firm of Ely, Guess, and Rudd. He died in a plane crash in 1978. Lisa Rudd held positions in local and state government agencies relating to education and human rights. She was a member of the Anchorage Charter Commission and the Alaska House of Representatives (1976-1980). She was appointed the commissioner of administration under Governor Sheffield (1983-1985). She was a supporter of civil and human rights efforts in Alaska. Lisa Rudd died in 1985.
