Heister V. White was born in Orange Township, Pennsylvania, on June 27, 1858. In 1878, he opened the White Milling Company in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, and served as its president and general manager until his retirement in 1939. White studied law, passing the bar examination in 1881. He also founded the Columbia County Farm Bureau, now known as the Columbia County Agriculture Extension Association. H. V. White served on Penn State's Board of Trustees from 1886 to 1923 and was a member of its executive committee from 1902 to 1919, serving as its secretary from 1907 to 1909. He died on September 30, 1946, at the age of 88.
