Rev. William Homes (1663-1746) was ordained in Strabane, Ireland, "by the Presbytery of Convoy" in 1692 and settled in Chilmark, Martha's Vineyard, Mass., in 1715. Here he was pastor until his death. Among Homes's six children was Captain Robert Homes ( - ), who was active in the sloop trade. Robert Homes was the husband of Mary Franklin (youngest sister of Benjamin Franklin).
