François Aubert was a French photographer who traveled to Mexico in the 1850s. In 1864 he bought Jules (Julio) Amiel's Mexico City photography studio. For the next several years he photographed Emperor Maximilian and his court and documented the French presence in Mexico. He left Mexico shortly after the execution of Maximilian and set up a photography practice in Algeria.
