Roberts, Edward J., 1857-1949
Variant namesEdward J. Roberts came to Spokane in 1889 as chief engineer on D.C. Corbin’s projected railways into the Coeur d’Alenes. From 1880 until 1887 he had been construction engineer for the Northern Pacific Railroad, then in 1887 became supervisor for the Great Northern line from Devil’s Lake, ND to Great Falls, MT. He created and developed profitable mining interests in the Coeur d’Alenes and organized the Union Iron Works in Spokane.
