North Carolina Institute of Education
The North Carolina Institute of Education was founded on 22 June 1831 by University of North Carolina professors and state leaders of the public school movement. The purpose of the Institute was "to diffuse knowledge on the subject of education and by every proper means to improve the condition of the common schools and other literary institutions of our state."

The North Carolina Institute of Education was founded on 22 June 1831, by University of North Carolina professors and state leaders of the public school movement. The purpose of the institute was to diffuse knowledge on the subject of education and by every proper means to improve the condition of the common schools and other literary institutions of our state. The institute, governed by a Board of Directors and an Executive Committee, met annually for an address by a noted educational leader of the state, to elect officers, and to formulate the next year's educational promotion efforts.
