Carnes, Susannah Smith Elliott.

Daughter of Benjamin Smith (1717-1770), a South Carolina merchant, plantation owner, and member of the S.C. Commons House. She was noted for making the flags for the 2nd South Carolina Regiment of the Continental Army during the American Revolution. Her first husband was Barnard Elliott, who died in 1778. She later married Captain Patrick Carnes (d. 1786), a plantation owner and Revolutionary War officer.
