Gamma Sigma Sigma is a national service sorority that "promotes a lifelong commitment to service and diversity, in an environment of unity and equality, while creating opportunities for growth." The sorority was founded in 1952 by groups at Boston University, Brooklyn College, the Drexel Institute of Technology, Los Angeles City College, New York University, Queens College, the University of Houston and the University of Miami. Originally named the Girl’s Service Sorority, members and alumni must complete a specific number of service hours outlined by the national and chapter bylaws. The Omicron chapter was established at the University of Minnesota on June 21, 1957. The chapter was active until the late 1960s.
