Horace Rouse Caffey was born in Grenada, Mississippi. He received B.S. and M.S. degrees from Mississippi State College and a Ph.D. from LSU in 1958. Caffey was professor of agronomy at the Rice Experiment Station in Crowley from 1962 until 1970. He became chancellor at LSU-Alexandria in 1981 and chancellor of the LSU Agricultural Center in 1984.
