Allen, George A. (George Anson), 1766-1846
Variant namesGeorge A. Allen was born in Bernardston, Mass., the son of Jonathan and Chloe (Bascom) Allen. His first wife was Chloe Cushman, of Middlebury, Vt., who died in 1832; his second was Sophia (Sargeant) Rathbone, widow of Alfred T. Rathbone. There children included George S., Sophia Chloe (married Dugald Stewart), and Matilda Elizabeth who married Gen. James Warner. Sophia (Sargeant) Allen was second wife of George A. Allen. Following his death she married Ira Allen of Middlebury (apparently no relation to George). A genealogy in the collection incorrectly lists George's and Sophia's children as children of Ira and another record incorrectly lists Ira as brother of George.
