Corliss Dodge was born in Hillsboro, N.D. on May 11, 1922. She later moved with her family to Mandan, where she graduated from Mandan High School. She attended the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minn. and also Mary College in Bismarck. She married William C. Mushik on June 14, 1950. Before being elected to public office, Mushik worked as a legal secretary for Gallagher Law Firm, sold real estate, and co-owned and managed Bill's Liquor Store. She was first elected to the North Dakota House of Representatives in 1970, and then to the Senate in 1984, where sher represented District 34 until 1996. Mushik was chair of the North Dakota Bicentennial Commission in the 1970s, and a member of the North Dakota Centennial Commission that planned the state's 100 birthday celebration in 1989. She served as the first woman chairperson of the North Dakota Legislative Council from 1991-92 and 1993-94. She also was a member of the Presbyterian Women, Mandan Airport Authority, the League of Women Voters (of which she served as state and local president), the North Dakota Democratic Party, and the Heritage Center Commission.
