Christian Isely, the father, was born in Switzerland and emigrated to this country in 1831, settling in Holmes County, Ohio and engaging in farming.

Henry Isely, for whom there is good biographical data, was a Civil War veteran, and after 1876 a farmer in Brown County. He was involved in local Brown County politics, elected township clerk of Walnut Township in 1872 and county clerk of Brown County, 1873. By 1903 Isely had become President of the Fairview State Bank.
