Sara Lou Debnam of Warrenton, Virginia, attended the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina (now UNCG) from 1947 to 1950. She was a member of the Cornelian Society. Her freshman year she participated in many sports including swimming, basketball, and softball. She was a member of Life Saving, the Recreation Association, Square Circle, the YWCA, the Dance Committee, and was a Carolinean Reporter. Her sophomore year she played basketball and softball and was in the Recreation Association, the Galilean Club, the Square Circle, the Daisy Chain, the Hall Elections Board and she was Rewrite Editor of the Carolinean. Her junior year she played softball and was a member of the Recreation Association, the Galilean Club, the Square Circle, Make-up Editor of the Carolinean, Class Project Chairman and Class Cheerleader. Her senior year she played softball and basketball, was a State Student Legislature Delegate, was a member of the Recreation Association, the Galilean Club, President of the Square Circle, a member of the YWCA, a Carolinean Reporter, College Cheerleader and Outstanding Senior. She graduated in 1950 with an A.B. in Mathematics.
