Heningburg, Gus
Variant namesGus Heningburg, a Newark, N.J.-based civil rights and activist, became the first President and CEO of the Greater Newark Urban Coalition, a local chapter of the National Urban Coalition, in 1968, and served as president of the GNUC for 12 years. Heningburg is most widely known for his success helping to integrate the workforce at Newark International Airport during the expansion project in the 1970s. He also helped to settle the nation's longest public housing rent strike at Newark's Stella Wright Homes in 1974.
