Quadri, Saleem Arif

Saleem Arif Quadri, previously known as Saleem Arif, was born in Hyderabad, India, in 1949. When he was 17 he moved to Britain. Later he studied art at the Birmingham College of Arts and the Royal College of Art, London. He has acknowledged the support and encouragement of his family and the role this played in nurturing his talent.

He has undertaken long journeys in the Indian sub-continent, which has enabled him to explore the cultural traditions of India and Pakistan. Travel has been important in his artistic development, and he has visited many different countries.

His artistic work is varied. He produces sculpture, paintings, photography, ceramics, and unique handmade books. As a curator he has also organised exhibitions.

Saleem Arif Quadri was made an MBE in 2008.
