Kollock, Lemuel, 1766-1823
Variant namesThe papers in this collection are those of Dr. Lemuel Kollock and his descendants, with the connecting lineage of the Campbell and Johnston families. Dr. Lemuel Kollock (1766-1823) married Maria Campbell, daughter of Macartan Campbell of Augusta, and granddaughter of Edward Fenwick of South Carolina. Their children were Phineas Miller Kollock (1804-1872) who married, first, Jane Priscilla Johnston, and second, Sarah Hull Campbell; George Jones Kollock (1810-1894) who married, first Priscilla Augusta Johnston, and second, Susan Marion Johnston, daughters of James Johnston, Jr. (1769-1822) and Ann Marion Houstoun; and Mary Fenwick Kollock (1806-1885) who married the Rev. Edward Neufville.

Lemuel Kollock (1766-1823) was born in Wrentham, Massachusetts. After studying medicine, he practiced for a time in rural South Carolina. He came to Savannah in 1792 where he remained until his death. He was a successful physician, one of the founders of the Georgia Medical Society in 1804, and promoted medical education in Georgia by teaching young men in Savannah and encouraging them to continue their medical studies at the medical School of the University of Pennsylvania.
