Henrietta (Harriet) Stephen (née Ravenscroft) was the daughter of Reverend William Ravenscroft of Dublin University and Priscilla (née Brooks). In 1821, Henrietta married solicitor George Stephen, who was knighted in 1838. They had six children. The Stephens lived in London until 1824 then moved to Hampstead. In 1855, the family emigrated to Australia and settled in Melbourne. George and his eldest son, James Wilberforce (Wilber), both practised as barristers.
