Anderson, James. Had served in Marine Service. Locally appointed. Name in Dictionary of National Biography. Born 17 January 1738. Doctor of Medicine [M.D.] Edinburgh 17-. Surgeon Mate, afterwards Surgeon 'Drake' 1759-61; Surgeon of 'Essex' 1762. Appointed Surgeon Madras Army, in 1762, for service in Manilla expedition; and while at Manilla held a commission, he states, in King's and Company's service at the same time. (Madras Military Consultations [M. Mily. Cons.] 26 Oct. 1786. Name not in Johnston's Roll of Royal Army Medical Corps [R.A.M.C.] In a letter dated 8 August 1782; (Madras Military Consultations Miscell. Book, 1782), he states that he was Surgeon to King's Artillery and M.D. before entering Indian Medical Service [I.M.S.]. Second Surgeon Madras, v. Scott, D. 27 April 1772; (Madras Consultations). Surgeon Major, 27 November 1780; (Madras Military Consultations). Senior Surgeon Madras, with title of Surgeon General v. Pasley, D. 17 October 1781; (Madras Military Consultations).
