The Cleveland Chess Association was founded in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1943. Its purpose was to be a non-profit organization established to foster and promote chess activities in the Greater Cleveland area. Members were a person or groups of persons who were interested in chess and approved by the Executive Board. The Cleveland Chess Association included three leagues; club, industrial, and scholastic. The CCA was governed by its own set of by-laws. It was offically incorporated on Februrary 8, 1973 and was affiliated with the United States Chess Federation and the Ohio Chess Association.
