Davis, Sherry

Hide Profile

Sherry Davis was the first fulltime female public address announcer in the major leagues. Davis made her debut on March 10, 1993, Opening Day at Candlestick Park, home of the San Francisco Giants. Davis would announce for the team until 1999, when the Giants relocated to Oracle Park Park and declined to renew her contract.

Davis grew up in Newport News, Virginia and graduated from College of Notre Dame of Maryland with a B.A. in Theater. She was an actress in the classics at the Norfolk Theatre Center from 1968 to 1976. Davis performed voice-overs in television commercials. She has also appeared as an extra in films such as 'The Last Detail.' Davis believes her specific training helped her to succeed with announcing.

In spring of 1993 the Giants held an open audition for a new public address announcer, around 500 people competed, including Davis who at the time was working as a legal secretary.
