New York society organized ca. 1862 under the leadership of Francis Lieber; loyal publication societies were formed during Civil War to distribute journals and documents of unquestionable loyalty to the United States, strongly opposing Copperheads and Democrats, they were active in state politics and the national campaign of 1864.
