Stuart Tipton wan an aviation attorney and airline industry executive during the twentieth century. Tipton was born in 1911 and earned his law degree from Northwestern University Law School. He became a lawyer for the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of General Counsel in 1936, where he became an authority on aviation law. During the late 1930s and early 1940s, he served as the Assistant General Counsel to the U.S. Civil Aeronautics Board. Tipton joined the Air Transport Association of America in 1944, where he went on to serve as its President (1955-1972) and Chairman of the Board (1972-1974). From 1974 to 1980, Tipton served as Pan American Airways' Vice President of Federal Affairs. Stuart Tipton passed away in 1981.
