Texas ranger, rancher. Born in 1861 in Williamson County, Texas, Sawyer served as a Texas Ranger (1881-1882). In 1884, he married Rebecca Skeen who was born in 1868 in Williamson County, Texas. Ranched in Runnels County, Texas, until 1902, when they moved to a 21,000 acre ranch in Terry County, Texas, near present-day Brownfield, Texas. They had 13 children: Laura, Barbie, Nettie, Allie, Arthur, Ida, Ora, Uyless, Ima, Oscar, Ticia, Larue, and Christova. Mr. Sawyer died in 1941, and Mrs. Sawyer died in 1949.
