Established in 1996 by the Library Board of Queensland, the Young Writers Award is open to Queensland residents aged 18 - 25 years. Judged on literary merit, the competition supports and nurtures talented young Queensland writers. The Young Writers Award is a creative writing competition that is launched each year during Library and Information Week (21-27 May). To enter the competition, writers need to be living in Queensland and aged between 18 - 25 years. First prize is $2000 cash, a nice certificate and surprise ?writers goody bag?.

The Broken Links Exhibition was held at the State Library of Queensland, 30 Apr 2007 - 16 Sep 2007. It presented the history of the Stolen Generations in Australia. Vistors' drawings and comments were captured and compiled in two volumes.
