A native of New York, Anson S. Miller moved to Rockford, Winnebago County, Illinois about 1840 where he practiced law. He served in the Illinois legislature, and was twice elected county judge. Abraham Lincoln appointed him postmaster of Rockford in 1865. Miller moved to California in 1870 and lived there the rest of his life.
