William George Hale was a planter, owning land and renting Shawn Place Plantation in De Soto Parish, Louisiana. He was involved in the establishment of San Patrice Baptist Church in De Soto Parish, 1850. This church sought membership in the Grand Cane Baptist Association. Hale was related to Gabriel Benson of South Carolina and Alabama by marriage and had a son, Newton McGraw Hale, and a daughter, Anna Harris. Benson was a cotton planter and cattleman with agricultural interests in the Pendleton District of South Carolina and near Mobile, Alabama. His sons were William B. Benson and Robert Foster Benson, cousins of Newton McGraw Hale. Benson was an active member of a Baptist church in Pine Flat, Alabama, and of the Pine Flat Temperance Society.
