Formerly the Council for Economic and Industry Research, C-E-I-R was incorporated as a non-profit company in 1952. Headquartered in Arlington, VA, it grew to be one of the largest independent research and computer service firms. The company provided economic and statistical analysis, electronics and communications engineering, and operations research for government and industry. C-E-I-R maintained computer research centers primarily in the United States and England, and used IBM 1401, 704, 7090, 360 and other computers. Herbert W. Robinson was president of the firm from 1954 to 1967, when it was acquired by Control Data Corporation.
