Attorney and jurist, of Aiken County, S.C.; son of James Thomas and Isabel Patterson Aldrich; native of Barnwell, S.C. Attended Washington & Lee University and later studied law under his father. Admitted to the bar, 1873. Settled at Aiken and practiced law there until 1889. Represented Aiken County in S.C. House of Representatives, 1878-1884 and 1886-1889. Elected judge of the second judicial district of S.C., 1889. Married Fannie Lebby, 1874.
