Esther Buhler Paxton was born July 25, 1906 at Pretty Prairie (Reno County), Kansas to David B. and Helen (Hansman) Buhler. Following the death of her parents, she became the guardian of five of her siblings. In 1928, she received a bachelor's degree in piano from the University of Kansas at Lawrence, where she was a member of the Delta Gamma social sorority. She married Edwin M. Paxton on June 22, 1935. They moved to Lawrence in 1936, where Mrs. Paxton taught piano. She was a member of Lawrence's Trinity Episcopal Church, the Lawrence Music Club, the National Guild of Piano Teachers, Mu Phi Epsilon International Music Fraternity, and Adah Chapter No. 7 of the Order of the Eastern Star, in which she was a 50-year member at the time of her death. Mrs. Paxton died on March 10, 1990 at Lawrence. Burial was in the Lone Star Cemetery at Pretty Prairie, Kansas.
