Seattle-born Dwight Watson developed an interest in mountaineering in the 1920s while employed at the Puget Sound Power and Light Co. Watson explored scenic spots in the Cascade Range, Olympic Peninsula, British Columbia, and Oregon, and he made the first ski ascent of Glacier Peak with Sigurd Hall in 1938. As an amateur photographer, Watson documented many of his mountaineering and skiing trips, and in 1936, he took publicity pictures for the Rainier National Park Company, including annotations of his experiences with the images. He associated with many well-known mountaineers and photographers in the Pacific Northwest, including Hermann Ulrichs, Fred and Helmy Becker, Otto Trott, Asahel Curtis, Ray Atkeson, and Lawrence D. Lindsley. Watson died in 1996.
