James R. Graves was probably the son of Zwinglius Calvin Graves (1816-1902), Baptist educator from Vermont and Ohio, who became the first president of Mary Sharp College in Winchester, Tenn., in 1850. Z.C. Graves had a brother, James Robinson Graves (1820-1893), Baptist clergyman, editor, who settled in Nashville in 1845.
