Berta (Hoerner) Hader (1890-1976) and her husband Elmer Hader (1889-1973) were writers and artists who met and married in New York in 1919. They wrote and illustrated their books together, both of them working on the art and the text, in the house they built in the Tappan Zee area along the Hudson River. Animals feature prominently in their works. Their prolific career began in the 1920s and continued through the 1960s.
