Ignatius W. O'Connor, born in South Boston in 1892, was a Boston-area Catholic involved in many social causes. He studied at the Trappist Monastery with the intention of joining the priesthood, but left due to poor health. He worked as a bank clerk at the Federal Reserve Bank. He was active in the civil rights movement and the Catholic worker movement. Late in life, O'Connor was known for his very public vigil against abortion. He died in 1981.
