Lyman Stansky attended Cornell from 1916 to 1920 and received a J.D. from Fordham University in 1922. At Cornell, he was a member of Delta Sigma Rho, the Debate Team, the Woodford Stage (debate), and the Debate Stage. He also contributed to the Cornell Law Review and was an assistant in Economics. From October to December 1918 he served in the Student Army Training Corps at Cornell. He practiced law in New York City, specializing in cases involving art objects, representing the Art and Antique Dealers League of America.
