Giles was born in Bellflower, California in May 1978 and was raised in La Habra, California. Giles served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Cordoba, Argentina from October 1999 thru April 2001. Upon returning home, Giles began working as a Spanish language teacher at the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah. In August 2002, Giles graduated from Brigham Young University with a major in English and minors in Spanish and Humanities.
