Fickett, Fred Wildon, 1857-1928
Fred Wildon Fickett was born in Dixmont, Maine, on August 29, 1857. Fickett graduated from Maine State College in 1880 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Fickett joined the U.S. Army Signal Corps in 1881 and received an appointment to Sitka, Alaska, arriving in September, 1882. Fickett was ordered to Portland, Oregon, in 1884. In 1885, Fickett left Portland to accompany Lieutenant Henry Allen on an expedition to ascend the Copper River and descend the Tanana River. Upon completion of the expedition and a short posting in Portland, Fickett was ordered to Maine in 1886. Fickett stayed in the Army until 1890. He worked for the U.S. Weather Bureau, practiced law, and managed several mining companies before his death on February 7, 1928.

Businessman Fred Fickett, Sr. served in the U.S. Signal Corps. While stationed in Alaska, he served on scientific expeditions for the army. He moved to Tucson in 1906 and was Manager of the Lincoln Consolidated Mining Company. Fred Fickett, Jr. was an attorney and Superior Court Judge in Pima County. He served on the school board for many years. Mary Fickett Howes attended Tucson High and the University of Arizona before serving as a missionary in China for about twenty years.

Fred Wildon Fickett was born in Maine. He graduated from Maine State College (1880), and served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps (1881-1890). In 1882, Fickett volunteered for service in Alaska and was stationed in Sitka (1882-1884). Fickett served on the expedition under Henry T. Allen that explored the Copper, Tanana, and Koyukuk rivers in 1885. He married Nellie Tibbetts Lord in Maine in 1886. After leaving the Army, Fickett was an assistant observer in the U.S. Weather Bureau office in Texas, a lawyer and judge in Texas, and a businessman in Arizona.
