Atwood, Evangeline
Variant namesWell-known person in Anchorage social and civic life from 1935 until her death in 1988. Co-owner, with her husband Robert, of the Anchorage Times. Author of many books about Alaska politics and history. Founder of many historical and performing arts organizations in Anchorage, including the Alaska Federation of Women's Clubs and Alaska World Affairs Council. She also founded the Alaska Statehood Association, the group that initiated and promoted the idea of Alaska's statehood. She was born in Sitka.
