Appointed as curate of Hanbury in 1785, Sneyd had an affair with Emma Vernon, the wife of his patron Henry Cecil, and eloped with her in 1789. Sneyd was imprisoned in the Marshalsea during the divorce proceedings, and married Emma in 1791. He may have died in Lisbon in 1793.
