White, Lyman, 1800-1880.

Lyman White was born in Easton, Massachusetts, on March 8, 1800, the son of Adonijah White. He died in Boston in 1880. He was a chair and ornamental painter, successful enough to be elected to the Massachusetts Charitable Mechanics Association in 1837. Lyman's brother Samuel Dexter White (1804-1836) also became an ornamental painter, as did Samuel's son Jarvis Dexter White (March 30, 1830-1915). Jarvis served his apprenticeship with John Green, Jr. Both Lyman and his nephew Jarvis worked as varnishers for the Chickering Piano Company for many years.
