Thwaits family.

Hide Profile

Both James H. Thwaits (1834-1860), and his younger brother, Walter L. Thwaits (d. 1862) were educated at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky. Much of the correspondence from Walter describes his activities while at Centre. James was a newspaper editor (newspaper titles unknown) in Bowling Green and Lexington, and he also worked for the LOUISVILLE COURIER. The Thwaits' sisters, Sarah and Harriett, lived in Lexington until moving to Davis County, Missouri, in 1857. They were the recipients of many of the letters written by Walter and James. In his career as a newspaper editor, James had the opportunity to meet some of the prominent politicians of his day.
